Applying to sit for MRCP Exam

How to book for MRCP (UK) Part 1 Exam?

Step by step process for registration to MRCP (UK) part 1 exam

1. Create mymrcp account from website mymrcp.mrcpuk.org

2. Make sure all the personal details are up to date on the account. Your name should match the name on your passport and primary medical qualification certificate.

3. Click ‘upcoming exam’ option on the top.

4. During the application period, you can find MRCP part 1 exam on the list. Click Apply.

5. If any changes are to be made on your personal details you can do it in the first step of the application process and save the change.

6. If you are registered with GMC click yes and fill the details or otherwise click on No and move forward.

7. If you are working or training in the UK, put your training information, or otherwise click No and move forward. In case of a shortage of available space, trainees will be prioritized by the royal college.

8. Choose a center where you would like to take the exam.

9. If you want to make any special arrangements for the exam due to medical problems, you can make it here. Otherwise, agree to regulation and move forward.

10. Pay for the exam. You have three options: Online, Cash, or Cheque.

11. After paying, finish the application process. You will receive an email confirming the payment and an exam seat.

12. Check your account 2-3 weeks before your exam day to see the details of the exam venue.

13. Do a black and white copy of your graduation certificate (Primary Medical Qualification). Make sure that the date mentioned in your certificate is at least 1 year before the exam date that you are aiming to book.
Note: 1 year of experience after you graduate is a required criterion to sit for this exam.

14. Verify that copy of your certificate from any of the following ways:
 - issuing university or medical school
 - British council
 - British embassy
 - British high commission
 - government ministry of health
 - a notary public
 - a fellow or member of RCP
The easiest one is through a notary public. I did it from the notary public only.
The verification stamp should be very clear without obstructing any text of the certificate. It should clearly contain the authorized signature of the officer and mention that it is the verification of a true copy of the original.

15. Scan the verified certificate.

16. Email that scanned copy royal college

Recipient: pmq@mrcpuk.org
Subject: Primary Medical Qualification; RCP code number XXXXX
Note: Attach either in pdf or jpeg format and make sure the file is less than 2 MB.

Send the email to the royal college only during the application period for the upcoming exam. The application period is generally 3 months earlier than the exam date. Check MRCP official website regarding application period, exam date, and venue.

Points to note during application:
a) It's necessary to have an RCP code number to send that email to the royal college. Rcp code number can be acquired after paying for the exam. Some of my friends have also told me that they had received the RCP code right after creating an account. However, in my case, I got it after paying for the exam.

b) Please note that the royal college will send you multiple auto-generated emails, requesting you to send your PMQ to complete your application process. These are just the auto-generated reminder emails, do NOT panic by thinking that you have already sent the PMQ and still getting these emails time and again asking you for your PMQ.

c) In case of any doubt or suspicion don't ask other colleagues or seniors, just confirm yourself directly by calling the RCP London office. They are kind enough to reply to all your queries.

d) Be careful that it may take up to 4 weeks maximum from the date of closing of the application period to get a response to your PMQ email. I got mine in just 4 days, but all will not get that early. So if you wait for them to reply and then pay, then it might be late than the closing date of the application period. Beyond the last date to apply for the exam, you can’t pay and register for that exam.

e) Candidates fully registered with GMC, do not need to provide their PMQ, unless requested by MRCP UK central office.

Thank you.

    1. Take your pmq certificate, make a xerox copy, take that to any of the above mentioned firm, put an official stamp of verification as a true copy of original. Thats what it means.
