Tier 2 Dependent Visa Application

Congratulations on your decision to relocate to the UK after the successful process of licensing and getting a job. You have come this far in your journey and this is a great achievement in itself. In this blog, I will guide you through step by step process of bringing in your partner to the UK.

In my case, I relocated to the UK alone, as I wanted to settle here myself for the first few months. My trust policy was also to provide accommodation only for the main applicant, so I knew I would need time before I can get the proper family accommodation as well. Travelling alone for the first time was therefore so less stressful and I recommend the same for everyone as well.

I was well settled after the first couple of months and then started my visa application process. Tier 2 Dependent Visa was the most straightforward visa application that I had done yet in my entire relocation process to the UK.

I applied online from the following website:

https://apply-to-visit-or-stay-in-the-uk.homeoffice.gov.uk/sort/live-in-crown-dependency/pbs_dependant_partner_out_uk?uid=74ba7703-08f5-44ba-9962-1cce93a85662

The first question that I was asked was if my partner is intending to live in one of the crown dependencies and if my partner has an EU or EEA or Swiss passport. After answering ‘NO’ to both of these questions, the portal asked me to choose the visa type. The type to select here is – “Partner Dependent visa - PBS (including Student), Start-up, Innovator or Global Talent dependant partner”. Once done, then it will ask to select the country for biometrics and then the actual application questionnaire starts. After filling in all the required details, we can print out the whole application and the document checklist. Then the portal will redirect to the website of the visa application centre website where we can get the appointment slot for biometrics.

After the online process is completed, the next step is to write a cover letter and collect the documents.

Following is the redacted copy of my cover letter, you can get a rough idea from here.

The documents that I collected were:

1.  TB clearance certificate from International Organisation for Migration. You need a separate appointment for this in your home country, so make sure you have given yourself enough time for biometrics.

2.  Copy of the main applicant passport along with the original passport of the dependent

3.  Marriage certificate, relationship verification certificate from the local council. I also kept a photo of my marriage ceremony.

4.  Police clearance certificate. In my country, this was very easy to obtain and for free. I just had to fill in the online form and the certificate was mailed to me within a few days.

5.  I also attached the tenancy agreement signed between me and my landlord as proof of accommodation.

As this was the dependent of health and care worker visa, it didn’t require an immigration health surcharge and the visa was granted in 14 working days.

I wish you all the best for your dependent visa application.
