Now that you have made a solid NHS job profile, the next step
is to apply for jobs. There are websites like:
jobs.nhs.uk
trac.jobs
jobs.scot.nhs.uk
Easiest one to navigate through is jobs.nhs.uk website. Login to this website using the steps mentioned in the previous article.
Then you will land up
on the homepage with the search box for jobs.
Put the job reference
number if you have one or directly search for the jobs using keywords. The basic idea
here is to search for jobs in such a way that gives you as many results as
possible.
The technique that I used
is, instead of searching for the terms like FY2, Trust grade doctor, Junior
Clinical Fellow, ST1/ST2, CT1, SHO, etc., I used the broader term like “Doctor”
only.
Then, once you hit the
search button, you will get many search results that might not be quite
relevant for you in the first place. Hence, I would then suggest you put some filters
over the result. Filter options are on the left side of the search result.
If you are applying for
junior positions like me, use the following filters:
Salary Range: 30000 –
40000 pounds
Staff Group: Medical
and Dental
This will now give you more
relevant results. Try changing a few filters like Foundation doctors, Doctor –
Others, etc in the Pay band section and see how the search result differs as well. Remember, applying too many filters will only decrease your available options, and thus will not serve the purpose. In my opinion, the best filter option is always the salary range, as this will automatically keep you in the relevant grade of jobs that you want.
Now that you have got
the result, click and open them in a new tab one by one. Read the job description
and person specification in each of them, try modifying your NHS job profile in
relevant places (like I mentioned in the previous article), and then apply. Focus
on quality than quantity. Many doctors are randomly applying over a range
of different jobs without looking over person specifications. If you do that,
you are just likely to increase your rejection emails. Some job demands ALS,
some demands NHS experience, whereas other demands Full MRCP/MRCS as essential criteria and some jobs are at
the level of Registrar. Check them and apply to those
which are most appropriate for you. Do not apply randomly.
The next step is to create an account in trac.jobs website as well, using the same email address and details that you used in jobs.nhs.uk. This is because, trusts generally extract your information from the nhs jobs application and keep it in your trac.jobs account automatically, as it will be easier for them to arrange an interview, or do the pre employments checks like DBS checks and as well as do the future correspondence from the email domain of trac.jobs
If you want to apply
for jobs in Scotland, use jobs.scot.nhs.uk website.
Keep an eye over your email, for any response from the trust.
You can also subscribe to the daily email newsletters of the relevant and new job vacancies from the trac.jobs website.
Best of luck. If you have any queries use the comment section below.
